The Unibet Poker Open, PKR Traffic and the some Weekend Results

September 4th, 2011 by Gerry Poltorak

The weekends are always busy at the award-winning online poker site PKR Poker, and this past weekend was no exception. In addition to the usual array of poker tournaments taking place across the site, a few members of Team PKR were in Dublin for the Unibet Poker Open Main Event, and if you were one of the lucky PKR Poker players who owned a 1% share of James “James666” Sudworth or Scott “PKR_Scott” Shelley than the results from the €1,600 buy-in tournament are even more important to you –especially when the prize-pool grew to almost €400k!

Also on the live tournament front was the Fox Poker Club’s London Calling Main Event which featured a two day Main Event, one day on Sunday and another on Monday. While the FPC London Calling Main Event’s price-tag was not quite as high as the Unibet Open, the £500 buy-in still created a massive prize-pool and attracted some of the UK’s top poker talent, including several members of PKR Poker.

In this wrap-up I’ll also take a look at the recent traffic numbers at PKR Poker, and compare them with the site’s traffic in recent months and year-over-year. Hopefully this will shed some light on how many disenfranchised players from Full Tilt Poker and other online poker sites affected by Black Friday have decided to make the change to PKR Poker.

The Unibet Poker Open

A total of 260 players showed up for the €1,600 Main Event at the Unibet Open in Dublin, including a number of players representing PKR Poker. Unfortunately both James Sudworth and Scott Shelley were shutout of the prize-money, so the players hoping to cash in their 1% of the over €100k in first-place prize-money were left holding a worthless ticket.

The 260 players generated a prize-pool of €390,000, with 30 players reaching the money – the min-cash for the tournament netted places 26-30 a respectable weekend pay of €2,340, but the real money was at the front end of the tournament. Here is a look at the Top 10 payouts from the Unibet Open:

  1. Paul Vas Nunes — €105,300.00
  2. Emil Pedersen — €66,300.00
  3. Pim van Riet — €39,000.00
  4. Tommy Almqvist — €27,000.00
  5. Peter Harkes — €23,000.00
  6. Boris Kuzmanovic — €19,000.00
  7. Marcel Scherjon — €15,000.00
  8. Morten Jensen — €11,000.00
  9. Thomas Svengaard — €7,800.00
  10. Joey Vittali — €5,850.00

The Fox Poker Club London Calling Tournament

While the Unibet Open was wrapping up in Dublin another tournament was getting underway in London, the Fox Poker Club London Calling Main Event, hosted by PKR Poker.

Over the course of the weekend the Fox Poker Club awarded over £75,000 in a number of preliminary events as well as the £500 buy-in Main Event, which was won by Georges Tohme, who pocketed over £15k for his win over a very tough final table that included UK poker legend Barney Boatman.

A total of 93 players registered for the tournament: Here is a look at the final table payouts from the Main Event:

  1. Georges Tohme — £15,040
  2. Chuck Clark — £11,000
  3. Richard Paul — £6,390
  4. Jerome O’Shea — £4,530
  5. Vilnis Geidans — £3,140
  6. Neil Barron — £2,210
  7. Barney Boatman — £1,860
  8. Marc Daubach — £1,400
  9. Andrew Berkecz — £930

PKR Poker Traffic Numbers

PKR Poker is still holding strong as one of the top independent poker rooms in the online poker market. Thanks to their award-winning 3-D software, the site has managed to compete with the numerous networks of sites that populate the online poker industry, and only trails PokerStars, Party Poker, and Everest Poker in terms of independent poker rooms outside of the US market.

Overall, traffic at PKR has continued to steadily climb –a trend that began even before Black Friday—and with their new 2-D “Lite” version now catching on as well, it looks like bright skies ahead for the site.

Weekend Tournament Results

The results for the weekend tournament slate at PKR Poker are still coming in, but we will make sure to update you in a special Weekly Wrap-up that we will be releasing on Thursday on this week.
